Mike - I drank in every word of your post. Thank you for articulating so well what has in the past …and will (hopefully) continue to uniquely differentiate Portland as a very special place going forward. At the same time we all know Portland has some serious work to do at the foundational level to make this a reality. With both of these intentions in mind, may we all open our ballots this fall and vote accordingly….particularly for the 12 new city council seats.

Thank you for articulating so beautifully the best of Portland. You can’t be more right on how lucky we are to have such wickedly talent and creative chefs and creators here in Portland.

I’ve seen the change in the last year as well and this piece gives me even more hope. ❤️

Completely agree. Creativity, in all its forms, and our willingness as a community to celebrate that creativity — no matter how wide ranging or incredibly nuanced — has continued to inspire me, decade after decade.

Thank You for sharing this beautiful ode to Portland! You might gather from my login name that I am among the Portland diaspora (now in London). We lived in the Rose City (Westside and NoPo) from '92-'22 and we saw it at it's best and at it's worst. When we departed in '22, post-pandemic, things were not great - but we were delighted during our visit last fall that things had really improved. We believe in Portland, still own our home there, and who knows, might be back. And - the Feast was Amazing!

Thanks for the comment David. I agree. Portland was much slower to recover from the pandemic years--and I believe a lot of that had to do with decisions we made (and didn't make) in the years leading up to it--many of which had nothing to do with COVID, but were laid bare by a crisis of that scale. Right now it definitely feels like the seeds of whatever is coming next are taking root--and there are some big moves on the horizon. Also, love that direct British Airways flight to London.

And thanks for the kind words about Feast. I really appreciate that.
